Baby moon weekend in Marmaris

weekend in marmaris

My hubby took me on a babymoon weekend (a “babymoon” is like a honeymoon before the baby comes) to Marmaris, Turkey and it was one of the best weekends of my pregnancy!

Marmaris is only 1 hour away from Rhodes (short trip, doctor approved 😉 ), it is on another country (another continent, really, so very interesting to visit!), you don’t have to take a long flight or wait in long lines in an airport (doctor double approved) and is a quiet (at least in spring, when we visited) coastal town with not many excitements, exactly as our lovely doctor prescribed!

But still, there are many things to do on a weekend in Marmaris:

Eat some delicious waffles 😉

Try the famous turkish cuisine, traditional dishes and discover quaint little restaurants favored by locals and repeating visitors. They even speak some Greek!

Our favorite: Memed Ocakbasi for delicious lahmacun pies!

Walk along Marmaris marina and get lost in the alleys

Enjoy turkish tea with a sea view

Shopping of course! Probably this is what Marmaris is most famous for! The market was not at its full when we visited but I spotted (and invested on) some very good quality cutlery, home linen and baby stuff. These were not in the closed market, the bazaar, but on the shops out in the streets,, which I discovered when my precious fitter half was at the hotel gym 🙂

Marmaris is ideal for a couple of days off! It is a contemporary town, very clean and neat, with good food and a few nice shops where you can find some good quality stuff.

The only thing I found quite unusual was the service at restaurants and shops: they almost kick you out as soon as you finish your meal. I like enjoying my food slowly, sipping a beer or wine (or water as I wasn’t allowed any alcohol), talking and indulging in my meal, like a Greek 🙂 But here everything was very quick, like eating fast food.

Other than that, it was a fabulous choice for a short and relaxing getaway which I totally recommend!
