I’m sure everyone wants to be happier at work. But this is easier said than done, right? Oh, wait, no, it actually depends a lot more on us than we usually think. Check out below 5 easy, simple, straightforward ways to be
happier at work
Find your favorite thing of the day – be it your morning coffee, a midday snack, the lunch break, reading your favorite blogs or the time you cross off half of the items in your to-do list, find something to look forward to and make it be your daily dose of self-love, happiness or just a reason to smile. Small things make big change you know 😉
Say no – I know you see that all the time on all the lists. But how many times have you actually done it and what impact did it have in your working life ? Did you perhaps lose a client you probably wouldn’t want anyway? Did you find someone else, not long afterwards, when you were more available and who ‘clicked‘ so much more with who you are and what you do?
Value your time – I know, you want to do this tiny job for a friend at no charge and yes, you would be available to help your mom’s friend with something but no, you can’t lose half an hour of productive time talk on the phone about something irrelevant (you can do that in the afternoon) and you can’t do a small errand immediately because your serious, paying-the-bills job is getting delayed and it would probably mean you stay after hours to finish it or even take it home with you. So know how much time you got and how to spend it.
Be creative – with your outfit, with your route to work, your stationery, your actual job. Take 5 minutes to think of 3 things you do absentmindedly and that are dull and try to think of ways to make them -if not fun then just different. eg. Do you take the same boring route to work every day? Try one with a better view! Do you answer e-mails all day? Add a personalised skin to your inbox or change your signature a little! Do you have to wear a uniform? Add a set of earrings or do your nails in a bright color. Your brain gets re-aligned and more alert each time you change a habit, scientists say and who are we to argue? 🙂
Be a good colleague – or project manager, or freelancer, or employee, whatever you are be a good one. When people are happy to work with you, you are happier to work with them, too. A nice working environment means more smiles, more jokes and a more relaxed atmosphere.
What do you think? Do you regularly do any of those things? I try to and I always find my mood improved and that’s why I wanted to share them with you!
